Monday, July 19

Today is the first day of the sports camp. If you’ve been on mission trips before, you know the first day is the craziest! Are we going to have two or two hundred in attendance? Is everything going work according to the way planned it (which it very rarely does)? What adjustments will we need to make in order to be most effective in communicating the Gospel this week?

Ask the Lord to give the team wisdom to deal with any issues that may arise. Ask Him to give the flexibility to adapt to changes that need to be made on the fly.

Also, pray for the students and adults who are in attendance this week and will be in attendance for the Mexico City VBS. Ask God to open their hearts to hear His Word in a fresh and new way.

Sunday, July 18

Our Weatherford, TX team leaves today. There will be a commissioning service during our weekly gathering. If you live in the area, please make plans to join us. If you are not local, you can catch the service on Facebook Live beginning at 11:00am. They will have lunch at the church and then start the drive to Weatherford. It is an eight-hour drive. Pray for traveling grace now and throughout the day as you remember to do so. Ask the Lord to keep them safe and that there be no trouble with the vehicles.

It was said of Jesus in John 9:33 after he opened the eyes of a man blind from birth, “If this man were not from God, he wouldn’t be able to do anything.” May our team be so filled with the Spirit of God that people in Weatherford see that we are sent by God! Please pray to that end.

Saturday, July 17

While Jesus will be taught and presented each day at these events, there will be a day specifically set aside for clearly sharing the Good News that Jesus saves. Pastor Jeff will be leading that time in Weatherford and Pastor Lynn will be leading it Mexico City. Ask God to anoint both of these men with the ability to clearly present the message of Jesus.

Pray for those who will listening. Ask the Lord “to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a share among those who are sanctified by faith in me” (Acts 26:18).

Friday, July 16

Do you like receiving gifts? Most people do. I have heard of people being gifted thousands of dollars, cars, land and even houses! What a blessing to be on the receiving end of such things. What a blessing it is to be on the giving end of that as well. The gift of salvation is the same way. Romans 6:23 tells us it is a gift: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” What a blessing it is to receive such a gift. Most of you reading this have received that gift. If you have not, please contact our pastor. He would love to walk you through receiving that gift. You can reply to this email and it will get to him.

As far as blessings go, a close second to your own salvation is leading someone else to Christ. What joy it brings to see someone surrender to Jesus as a result of your witness. That’s what these mission efforts are all about…bringing people to Jesus.

In your prayer for these mission efforts today, thank God for eternal life. Thank Him that He allows us to be involved in bringing others to Jesus. Thank Him for those that will surrender their lives to Him through these efforts of ours.

Thursday, July 15

Pray for the Bible Study leaders today. Pray that they effectively communicate the truth that is found in the material. Ask the Lord to allow the students to hear with understanding that they may come to a saving knowledge of Jesus.

Wednesday, July 14

Why do we do Backyard Bible Clubs? Why we do VBS? another country? Why do we do sports camps in another state. Two reasons: We love Jesus and we love people. This love compels us to go to people in our community, our nation and the world carrying the love of Jesus with us. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 16:14 that we should “Do everything in love.” That’s exactly what we are doing.

Specifically, pray that we will have children attend all of these events. Our attendance at the Backyard Bible Club has been sparse. We want to share the love of Jesus with as many children as possible. Ask the Lord to bring them to the place where we are working in Hammond, Weatherford, TX and Mexico City.

Tuesday, July 13

Today, please pray for the craft time. Thank God for the creativity and passion of those leading crafts. Ask the Lord to bless these leaders with wisdom as they explain the craft. Ask Him to give them clarity in their instructions. Ask Him to give them understanding of how the craft applies to the Bible study. Ask God to help the leaders clearly convey that understanding.

Sunday, July 11

Body, soul and spirit…as missionaries we must minister to the total person. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 teaches us All Scripture is inspired by God, and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. Part of being complete is being healthy enough to participate in active missions. While it is true that our current physical bodies will not last forever, we should do our best to train them so that we will be able to participate as long as possible.

That’s what we are teaching when we allow the children to have a time of recreation during the day. Yes, it also helps the burn off energy and be alert for the next session, but teaching them that staying in shape is important to the Gospel is a Biblical principle as well.

Ask the Lord to give our recreation leaders the energy they need to sustain the week. Ask Him to help the children understand that recreation is more than play time…all though it is definitely that as well.

Saturday, July 10

1 Peter 4:10 tells us, Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God. While this applies to everyone who has surrendered their life to Jesus, no where is this more important than in the area of missions. Those who have a passion to reach the lost in their community and around the world are special in the eyes Jesus. The Apostle Paul, quoting the prophet Isaiah, said, How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news. Isaiah went further by saying, How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the herald, who proclaims peace, who brings news of good things, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns! It is a blessed thing to carry the Gospel to those who are lost and need a Savior.

Today, pray specifically for those who are not only going to be on mission, but those who are teaching missions during the trips. Ask the Lord to let their passion for missions shine through and be an example for those they are teaching. Ask that the hearts and minds of the students be open as the Lord teaches them about missions…maybe to the point of some of them surrendering to a life dedicated to that very task.

Thank you for praying.

Friday, July 9

Music is a vital part of what these teams will be doing during their work. Music is a gift of God. It can be seen from the beginning to the end of earth. Early in creation we that the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy (Job 38:7). Near the end of time we read in Revelation 5:13, I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them say, Blessing and honor and glory and power be to the one seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!

If you’ve ever participated in VBS then you know what a big part music plays. Ask the Lord to bless those who will be leading the music in VBS, the Backyard Bible Club. Ask Him to let the participants hear and understand the truth begin communicated in the songs.

Thursday, July 8

Today in our prayer time for these missionaries and their efforts, let’s go back to the beginning…to the promise God made long ago to send us a Savior. He said in Isaiah 9:6, For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us… Some 700 years later, Jesus came to earth to be the Savoir of all men who would surrender to Him. That’s what all our work this summer stems from. We all must surrender to Him and then be about the business of proclaiming Him to the world.

Thank God for Jesus. Thank God for these missionaries who have given themselves to Him and are willing to travel to proclaim. Thank God for those that will surrender their lives to Him though the efforts of these teams.

Wednesday, July 7

What is God going to do during our three events? Here’s what we know. We know that the group from Missouri will boldly proclaim the Gospel during the Backyard Bible Club at Tangi Mobile Home Park. We know that the group traveling to Weatherford, TX will use sports as a springboard to get to the Gospel. We know that the Mexico team will use Vacation Bible School material to teach the truth about Jesus. We know that God is going to honor these efforts. Anytime we exalt Jesus, there will be blessings to follow.

Pray that the blessings these teams receive will be that of a harvest of souls. It would be the greatest blessing they can receive.

Tuesday, July 6

First of all, thanks to those of you who are daily praying for the three events coming up. Your prayers make you a part of each of these teams. The first team will begin their work in just five days. The team from Miner Baptist Church and Morely Baptist Church will begin their journey to Hammond early Saturday morning. Just a day after they finish their work, eight people from First Baptist Hammond will leave for Weatherford, TX. That team will leave after our services on July 18 and return home on the 23rd. About a week later, the Mexico team will begin their journey and be gone from July 30-August 6.

Ask the Lord to give traveling grace to all three of these teams. Things are really different in the area of travel these days. COVID-19 restrictions vary from state to state. There are strict requirements when flying, especially when doing so internationally as our Mexico team will be doing.

Pray for protection for all three of these teams.

Also, ask the Lord to protect the workers and participants during the backyard Bible club, VBS and sports camp. The focus needs to be on Jesus, not some emergency situation. It is obvious in God’s Word that He wants to protect us. If God is for us, who is against us? Romans 8:31. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will never be shaken (Psalm 62:2). You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world (1 John 4:4). Therefore, we can pray with full confidence that God will protect our missionaries.

Monday, July 5

Have you ever been on a mission trip? If you have, then you know that it can be very fatiguing. You’re not sleeping in your own bed, your own home, or even in your hometown. Your days are full. There is usually very little time for rest. You are on a short-term mission and it is imperative that you make the best use of your time.

As a result, short-term missionaries can get tired while they are on mission. Today, lift up your missionaries by asking God to give them strength when they are weary. Ask the Lord to give them power when they are weak. He has promised to do this in Isaiah 40:29 where the Lord tells us, “He gives strength to the faint and strengthens the powerless.” Claim that for you missionaries as they are working for Him in a strange place.

Sunday, July 4

Efforts like the three taking place at First Baptist Hammond this summer do not occur without a lot prayer, planning and implementation. Take some time today to pray for those who are involved the planning. God’s Word tells us in Luke 14:28, “For which of you, wanting to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?” This speaks to the fact that we should plan our efforts and not just be led the demand of the immediate. Ask the Lord to help the leaders follow His plan. That’s when we see the Lord use us. “Commit your activities to the Lord, and your plans will be established (Proverbs 16:3).

Saturday, July 3

Jeremiah 29:13 You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart. Pray that kids and adults will search for God with all their hearts.

All of us realize that we can get lost spiritually and lose sight of the Lord. Due to unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances, we can fall into routines where we lose track of what’s important. Ask the Lord to keep the teams focused on their mission. Pray this for yourself as well.

Suggested prayer: Lord Jesus, instill in the heart of these teams, and I my own heart, a desire to seek You more and search for You with our whole heart. Let these teams be a reflection of You in thought, word, and deed, as they minister in Hammond, Weatherford and Mexico City.

Friday, July 2

Ask God to grant His favor and honor on all those who are serving in all three mission endeavors.

The Lord invites us to seek His favor because it is more than just asking God to bless us. The psalmist wrote in Psalm 119:58, “I have sought your favor with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise.” When we seek His favor, our spirits are filled with the expectation that we are going to receive it. It begins when we humble our hearts before Him as in 2 Kings 22:19 which reads, “because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become a desolation and a curse, and because you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I myself have heard — this is the LORD’s declaration.” When you ask for God to grant favor on these missionaries or yourself, it is that you are seeking Him for Himself, not just for the blessings He gives (Jeremiah 29:13). That, alone, changes everything.

Ask for that believing that God will grant it. Psalm 84:11 “For the Lord God is a sun and shield. The Lord grants favor and honor; he does not withhold the good from those who live with integrity.”

Thursday, July 1

Our mission efforts this summer are fast approaching. We have 9 days remaining to pray before the work that the Miner Baptist Mission team will be conducting begins at the Tangi Mobile Home Park and in our facilities. We have 17 days before we leave for Weatherford, TX to work in a sports camp with Spring Creek Baptist Church. We have 29 days to pray for our Mexico Mission Trip before we leave and 31 days to pray for the VBS, DESTINATION DIG in Mexico City.

From this day forward, until the conclusion of the Mexico City Mission, prayer guides will be emailed to our membership, posted on our Website and Facebook. By using the guides, you can be a part of these mission efforts without ever leaving Hammond. Each day a new prayer request will be posted so that we can all be in one accord as we pray for these endeavors. PRAYER, above all, is the key to success in each of these efforts!

Today’s request: Thank God for providing ALL to abound in HIS good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8, “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in ALL things, at ALL times, having ALL you need, you will abound in every good work.” Praise Him for HIS promises!

Thank God for the churches involved: Miner Baptist Church, Sikeston, MO; Baptist Church, Morley, MO; Spring Creek Baptist Church, Weatherford, TX; Capital City Baptist Church, Mexico City; and of course, First Baptist Hammond.

Thank God for the people involved from each of these churches. Specifically, thank God and ask for His anointing on those participating from First Baptist Hammond. For the Weatherford Mission: Chad Carr, Lainey Carr, Maegan Howes, Piper Howes, Stewart Peeler, Joe Riccobono, Pastor Jeff and Missy Robinson. Those participating in the Mexico City mission: Haven Kinchen, Jo Jo Kinchen, Jerry Mc Dowell, Pastor Jeff and Kay Smith (from Pastor Jeff’s former church).
